When rumours started floating around the internet back in April about the supposed leaked new Utah Jazz jersey my first thought was about the missing signature Jazz purple? Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith confirmed a rebranding of the Utah Jazz colors with no mention of the color purple and fears began to circle the web that the Utah Jazz would be doomed in the 2022-2023 season with the ugliest jerseys in the NBA.
For me, the signature purple paid homage to the original New Orleans roots of the Utah Jazz. Eliminating the color from the palet made very little sense to me. Even when the Utah Jazz started drifting towards black and orange elements in the city-edition jersey it felt like the Utah Jazz marketing team were paying too much attention to focus groups and not enough to the history of the team.
Last Friday, the Utah Jazz released a series of tweets showcasing the new jerseys for the 2022/2023 season with the slogan “Purple is back” and here to stay.
