Country music’s favorite superstars of today and the music industry’s treasured artists of yesteryears gathered together under one roof for a rockin’ good time at the 55th Country Music Association Awards. With a full night of country music and celebration planned the 55th CMA Awards took place in Nashville, Tennessee at the Bridgestone Arena and all audience members were required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination before entry. Under strict orders from the top, they were expected to follow necessary mask guidelines. With all this being said, the necessary guidelines due to COVID hasn’t stopped the celebrations from happening.
The nominations for tonight’s CMA Awards were originally revealed on September 9th. Eric Church and Chris Stapleton led the list of nominations, each with a total of five. Chris began picking up awards early on when he received the Song of the year award alongside Mike Henderson for the smash hit “Starting Over” Gabby Barrett followed with four nominations but unfortunately walked away empty handed.
This year Luke Bryan will host the CMA Awards. It will be the first time a solo host has hosted the CMA Awards in eighteen years. The last person to do so was Vince Gill. Last year the CMA Awards 2020 were hosted by Darius Rucker and Reba McEntire. This year the American Idol judge will command the stage with the support of an enthusiastic audience of Country music royalty.
The star-studded evening included a fine roster of presenters at this year’s CMA Awards with Amy Grant, Florida Georgia Line, Lady A, and Alan Jackson amongst the echelon.
Luke Combs took home the Entertainer of the Year award. Luke was in good company with the nomination for Entertainer of The Year including Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Chris Stapleton and Carrie Underwood. This makes Luke Combs a 6x CMA, 3x ACM and 3x Billboard Music Award-winner.
If you missed Eric Church’s performance of “Heart on Fire” alongside his back up vocalist Joanna Cotten that was followed with a standing ovation from the audience, you can still check out the performance tomorrow on Hulu. The performance by of “Never Wanted to be That Girl” by Carly Pearce and Ashley McBride was flawless as well. This year the CMA Awards scheduled many of Country music greatest such as Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Gabby Barrett, Zac Brown Band, Chris Stapleton and many others.
Chris Stapleton and Mike Henderson won Song of the Year for “Starting Over”. The other nominees for Song of the Year were “Forever After All” by Luke Combs, Drew Parker, and Robert Williford, “The Good Ones” by Gabby Barrett, Zach Kale, Emily Landis, Jim McCormick, “Hell Of A View” by Casey Beathard, Eric Church, Monty Criswell and “One Night Standards” by Nicolette Hayford, Shane McAnally, and Ashley McBryde.
