Cannes Lions announced yesterday that Jeffrey Katzenberg, the super-star icon and entrepreneur of the entertainment industry will be honoured with the Cannes Lions Media Person of the Year award for 2019. The award will be awarded to Mr. Katzenberg at the evening Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, the 19th of June in Cannes, France.
Jeffrey Katzenberg’s influence has changed the landscape of media and he has helped navigate the waters of entertainment marketing in the last decades. Katzenberg was the chairman of Walt Disney Studios and co-founded the production company Dreamworks SKG. He helped usher in top-grossing animated classics such as “The Little Mermaid” and “The Lion King” and under Katzenberg’s leadership, DreamWorks Animation became the largest animation studio in the world. Together, Katzenberg and Dreamworks released 32 animated feature films and 24 television series, including: “Kung Fu Panda” and “Madagascar”.
Quibi is a mobile-first media platform promising to offer quick bites of captivating entertainment. Founded by Katzenberg and currently incubated at WndrCo, Quibi’s current target audience is aimed at the 25-35-yer-old demographic, and is looking to compete with platforms like YouTube.
