At the Third Annual Apple Music Awards, the major tech giant celebrates the music artists who are popular on the Apply music streaming platform, recognizing the best artists of 2021 along with their influence on global culture.

This year, the Apple Music Awards honored achievements in music across five distinct categories including Artist of the Year, op Song of the Year, Top Album of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The winners are selected by Apple Music’s editorial team alongside insights into the customers around the world and what they are listening to the most.

“The past 12 months have proved to be a remarkable year for music, and we’re thrilled to honor the artists who are shaping culture and connecting with fans around the world on Apple Music,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats. “This year we’re also recognizing more regional artists, showing the world the impact of extraordinary talented musicians who are making waves globally.”

The celebration for the Apple Music Awards is set to kick off this coming Tuesday, December 7, 2021. The Apple event will include interviews, original content, and more all streaming worldwide on Apple Music and the Apple TV app.

The Weekend Wins Global Artist of the Year

The addictive sounds of The Weeknd came out on top as the music artist won Global Artist of the Year at this years award show. This was led by The Weeknds incredibly popular single “Blinding Lights” which peaked at No. 1 on Apple Music’s Daily Top 100: Global chart.

“I’m so grateful for this huge honor and want to thank Apple for all its support, not only for my work but also for great music by newer artists, where it matters so much for creators to be found and supported,” The Weeknd said.

Olivia Rodrigo Takes Home Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year

Another big winner is Olivia Rodrigo who has won the Apple Music Awards 2021 for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Also, a big winner of the night was H.E.R. who won the Songwriter of the Year award.

Along with the promotion of great global artists such as The Weekend, the Apple Music Awards this year will introduce a new category. The Regional Artist of the Year will recognize artists artists who made the greatest impact culturally and on the charts in their respective countries and regions. This year the artist come from the following five countries; Africa, France, Germany, Japan, and Russia.
